About me
I am a research fellow at the University of York where, in addition to empirical research, the focus of my work is the translation of research-evidence into classroom resources that support students' learning of science through the development of teachers' research-informed practice.
I am co-director for Best Evidence Science Teaching (www.bestevidencescienceteaching.org) and was a curriculum design lead and project manager for the new Oak National Academy science curriculum. I am also co-chair or the editorial board of Physics Review magazine, a member of the ASE 11-19 Curriculum Committee, and a member of the ASE Policy Group.
Previously, I taught Science and Physics for 28 years in a wide variety of secondary schools in Barnsley, Guyana, Harrogate, Tadcaster and York. I have had leadership roles for special educational needs, physics and KS3 science, and for 15 years led a large school science department, developing a very strong focus on research informed practice.
