About me
As a classroom biology teacher and Head of Science, I have long been interested in why some explanations and examples remain with students while others are quickly forgotten. Biology provides a wealth of extraordinary organisms, behaviours and adaptations, yet teaching can sometimes rely on over-familiar textbook examples.
Through classroom practice, curriculum planning, collaboration with colleagues and reading around memory and engagement, I have increasingly used unusual real-world examples to make difficult ideas more vivid, memorable and meaningful. This session draws on that experience and explores how carefully selected examples can strengthen both enjoyment and understanding across the secondary age range.
